Nava Jyoti PC Community Enterprise System
The community consists of people from around the Nava Jyoti Kendra, Nuagada G.P. in Rayagada district, Orissa. While there are about 1000 families (5000 people) from Nuagada G.P. and adjacent villages of Gulliguda G.P., and Tembaguda G.P,500 families(2500 people) from Bhimpur G.P. Currently, about 300 families (1500 people) have registered as the members/shareholders of the community enterprise system. It has been registered as a producer company as on 18 May 2010 as per section XI A of Companies Act 1956,Government of India.
The project's effort will be to include most of the families of this community to soon join the endeavor to put in place a sustainable community enterprise system that is community based, community paced, community managed and community owned.
We produce different types of agricultural produce including those of horticulture, forest produce and animal husbandry. We adopt the age old principles of organic and integrated agriculture. We are now being assisted by NABARD-XIMB-Sustainability Trust to build our community enterprise system for the sustainability of our families and the community.

Optimizing Asymmetries for Sustainability
The concept of the action tries to resolve and optimize the inherent asymmetries for sustainability of the enterprise system in a rural agricultural setting in developing country context. The action is based on the assumptions that
(a) the traditional firms are asymmetry generating entities and are at the core of un-sustainability of the society,
(b) Since the sum total of inherent asymmetries in the real world conditions will remain to be greater than zero, our models for sustainability are bounded by optimal solutions and not ideal solutions, and
(c) For an enterprise system to be sustainable, the enterprise needs to be designed with simultaneous optimal positions on all the asymmetry generating variables and
(d) Sustainability can be best ensured by ensuring the sustainability of the weakest person(s) in a local ecological system.

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has been at the forefront of this project. The officials in the Regional Office, Bhubaneswar and at the Head Office, Mumbai have taken immense interest in the above action research, right from the proposal stage to its approval, and subsequent stages in facilitating the action research for a sustainable community enterprise system for its success. The financial support of NABARD has indeed been timely. With the financial support has helped put professionals, facilitators, and community level workers to undertake systematic organization of the community, data collection, training and capacity building at different levels of value chain of the local produce of the producer members.

XIMB
Xavier Institute of Management is the key patron of this Action Research to develop a sustainable community enterprise system. The above enterprise system was conceptualized in XIMB and the management of XIMB has supported the idea since the beginning. Currently, about five Professors are actively involved and many others are indirectly involved in this community enterprise system action research.

SUSTAINAIBILTY TRUST
With the initiative of the Trust members, the preliminary action research in the Nuagada G.P. began in the year 2005. The core value of the Sustainability Trust is to develop a model of giving through the process of emptying oneself of ideas and breaking oneself for others.
